Relax, Have a Picnic or a Hike at the Griffith Park

Los Angeles is a city of many firsts, but nothing can compare to the Griffith Park. Located on the Eastern side of Santa Monica Mountains, the park has made a name for itself as the ideal place to hike and have a fun day with the kids, friends, and lovers or even for corporate team building.

The Griffith Park started off as a way to lure the Los Angeles residents to the real estate development in the Rancho Los Feliz back in 1882. The development was owned by a Colonel Griffith J. Griffith who had previously invested successfully in Mining. As a way to extend his business empire, he had bought the ranch to start a real estate business. Unfortunately, people were not attracted to the property due to the rumors that the area was haunted by the ghost of Antonio Feliz, the previous owner. This was the reason he bought the land, started an ostrich farm, and welcomed people to his property in order to show them that the land was free of Feliz’ ghost.

Once the real estate market peaked in 1886, Colonel Griffith handed over to the Los Angeles Municipality 3015 acres. Today this land constitutes the majority of the land that the Griffith Park sits on.

Griffith Park is extensive. It covers 4,310 acres of land and is therefore one of the largest parks in North America. It is larger than the famous New York Park and is less tamed. It has been previously said that it is the 11th biggest park that is owned by a municipality in the US.

The Griffith Park is a fun laden center. From its grounds, you can do activities such as camping, hiking, playing golf, horse riding, jogging, picnics, play soccer, swim, and play tennis among others.

The park also has attractions such as Autry National Center, which is a museum for sharing stories and experiences. Other attractions include; bicycle rentals for riding around the park, Greek Theater, Griffith-Merry-Go-Round, L.A Equestrian Center, Griffith Observatory, L.A Live Steamers, L.A Zoo, pony rides and many more.

If you are an L.A resident, then this is a good place to connect with friends and nature. If you are a visitor to L.A, then make sure you sample the delights within this park. It is an once-in-a-lifetime experience.
